Player Awards Dinner 2017: Bayo awarded Bucks Free Press Supporters' Player of the Season

30 April 2017

Adebayo Akinfenwa collected the Bucks Free Press Supporters' Player and the Players' Player Award for 2016/17 at the End of Season Awards night at Adams Park.

The striker has been a revelation at Wycombe since joining in the summer of 2016, scoring 18 goals with numerous assists to help mount a play-off push in the league this season whilst also helping the team reach the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup; and now the Beast has received accolades from the Chairboys fans, who voted via a poll on the Bucks Free Press website and also from his fellow peers.

Elsewhere, Jamal Blackman received the Young Player of the Season Award in recognition of his 16 clean sheets in all competitions this season and for his many match-saving moments during his year-long loan spell at the club.

Luke O'Nien picked up the Wycombe Wanderers Sport and Education Trust Community Player of the Year Award for all his efforts off the pitch in the local area and the prestigious Goal of the Season Award, sponsored by the 500 Club, went to Paul Hayes for his wonder strike at White Hart Lane against Tottenham Hotspur in the Emirates FA Cup, narrowly beating long range strikes from Sam Saunders vs Barnet and Paris Cowan-Hall vs Newport.

The Volunteer of the Year Award, which recognises someone who gives up their time to go above and beyond to help the club, went to Alan Hodgson for his help with stadium maintenance during the week and on matchdays.

There were special awards for club captain Matt Bloomfield on becoming the club's record appearance maker in the English Football League and assistant manager Richard Dobson, who received an Oustanding contribution Award for his incredible ten-year service to the club.

In a night hosted by Rachel Stringer, over 200 guests were treated to a three-course meal, a raffle, an address from club chairman Andrew Howard and manager Gareth Ainsworth and reminded of the many memories on the pitch over the year gone by in a video montage before a disco finished the night.

Wycombe Wanderers would like to thank all those that helped make this evening possible, the Bucks Free Press and all other award sponsors, the guests in attendance and all fans who cast their vote for the Goal of the Season, which was shortlisted on the night and the Supporters' Player of the Year Award on the Bucks Free Press website.
