Wanderers have teamed up with the Berks & Bucks FA to undertake a football boot collection across Wycombe and South Bucks......which will kick off at the Sky Bet League Two game against Exeter City on Saturday 1st October.
Boot collection points will be set up at a number of local clubs, as well as at the car park and reception at Adams Park, where individuals can come along and donate their old boots. These boots will then be given to a number of different groups/individuals who don’t have the resources to be able to access suitable footwear to play football.
Many of the groups that have been identified to take part, or are looking to take part, are in the BOBI League Premier Division which is targeted at individuals with a range of social issues (e.g. homelessness, drug / alcohol abuse, or mental health issues). Individuals within some of these groups are not able to participate owing to them not having trainers, or only having one pair and not wanting to ruin them playing football.
There is proven evidence that participation in sport can have an extremely positive impact on mental wellbeing. We have witnessed individuals develop a range of skills through being involved in the monthly fixtures including improved communication, leadership skills, greater respect for authority/rules, and developing others. From participating in the league, numerous individuals have used this as first step into rehabilitation, and gone into get back into full-time employment.
If you would like more information on the campaign, or to find out where your local boot collection point is then please contact; firstname.lastname@example.org. Please bring boots along to the game against Exeter on 1st October, or leave them at reception during the working week.
