The Big Match Preview: Barnet

21 October 2016

All you need to know ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet League Two clash with Barnet at Adams Park (k.o. 3pm).

Wycombe Wanderers vs Barnet
Saturday 22nd October 2016, k.o. 3pm
Adams Park, HP12 4HJ
Referee: Graham Horwood

Martin Allen's Barnet stand in the way of a potential fifth consecutive home victory for the Chairboys, who may be relieved to return to Adams Park after back-to-back away games yielded just one point to show for their efforts.

Momentum gained from wins over Crewe, Exeter and West Ham U21s was halted in the frustrating 1-0 loss at Yeovil but the Blues were back in their rhythm at Mansfield, particularly in the first half where they dominated the game, only to be pegged back late on.

Now the aim is to continue to keep their home ground a happy one, taking on a Barnet outfit who have never won a league game in South Bucks, and arrive with a poor run of form which has seen them plummet to 23rd in the table.

Star striker John Akinde - twice a Wanderers loanee previously - is the man to watch, having netted 69% of their league goals so far this season, but they've shipped 19 goals in their last six games in all competitions, culminating in a 4-1 home loss to Exeter last weekend.

Wycombe have had to find different ways to taste glory in recent outings at home, carving through Crewe's defence which slick passing at a high tempo, and grounding down a stubborn Exeter outfit to snatch a late win three weeks ago.

Allen's sides are always well-organised and well-drilled so another patient approach may be required on Saturday, but confidence is high and the return to the squad of Myles Weston, Marcus Bean and Scott Kashket gives Gareth Ainsworth extra strength in depth to shuffle the pack where needed.
