The Big Match Preview: Hartlepool

25 November 2016

All you need to know ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet League Two clash with Hartlepool United at Adams Park (k.o. 3pm).

Wycombe Wanderers vs Hartlepool United
Saturday 26th November 2016, k.o. 3pm
Adams Park, HP12 4HJ
Referee: Kevin Johnson

Five wins from the last six at home, back-to-back away victories, 8th in the league and still in two cup competitions. It's a good time to be a Chairboys fan.

Momentum built during a string of successes at Adams Park in the autumn and grew with encouraging displays in draws at Mansfield and Doncaster, culminating with a stylish 2-0 home win over Morecambe and overdue away triumphs at Cambridge and Newport.

The surprise 2-0 loss to Barnet in October serves as a reminder of what can happen when Gareth Ainsworth's men let their standards slip, but for the most part, the Blues are proving their strength and looking more than capable of continuing their rise up the table.

Their next challenge comes in the form of a Hartlepool side currently sitting in mid-table, winning two of their last three but generally being one of the more unpredictable and inconsistent sides in the division, with manager Craig Hignett still making his mark and moulding his squad having been appointed in the summer.

They once lost eight consecutive meetings with the Chairboys, including their last five visits to Adams Park, but bucked the trend with a 1-0 win at Victoria Park when the two sides last met in January.

In the final game before the short break for FA Cup and Checkatrade Trophy action, both teams will be looking to enter the Christmas period on a high with a morale-boosting victory.

Wanderers welcome Dominic Gape back into the fold after suspension, while Pools have Liam Donnelly and Jordan Richards available again following injury.
