Summer signings begin with capture of 22-year-old striker

21 June 2016

Gareth Ainsworth has fought off competition from a number of EFL clubs by agreeing to sign highly-rated striker Dayle Southwell from Boston United on a two-year deal.

Wanderers’ summer recruitment begins in style with the capture of the 22-year-old, who has scored 54 goals in the past two seasons for the Vanarama National League North side, managed by former Wycombe forward Dennis Greene.

Southwell, formerly of Grimsby Town, was named in the National League North Team of the Year and also earned his first international cap for the England C team over the summer, adding another accolade to his growing list of achievements.

Ainsworth said: “Dayle is a player who’s been on our radar for some time and I’m thrilled to be able to bring him here. There were a lot of clubs looking at him but we know we can offer him a real opportunity to make his name in the EFL and develop his potential even further.

“He’s a physical striker who knows where the goal is and I’m confident that his all-round play will benefit us. It’s a great step up for Dayle and I think he could prove to be a really exciting signing for us.”

Chairboys fans will have the first chance to meet Dayle in the club shop at Adams Park on Wednesday from 12.30-1.30pm, providing the opportunity to have photos taken with the new arrival.

The deal remains subject to final paperwork being submitted.
