Runners in the Grant & Stone Wycombe Half Marathon will start and finish at the home of the Chairboys, when the race takes place on Sunday 10th July 2016.In association with the Handy Cross Runners, the half marathon has a brand-new course for this year, taking in some of the county’s most scenic countryside through West Wycombe Park and Lane End.
The race – and its 10km equivalent – will begin from the car park at Adams Park at 9.30am and end with a lap around the pitch before crossing the line in front of the players’ tunnel inside the stadium.
Wycombe Wanderers chairman Andrew Howard said: “We’re thrilled to have been asked to host the start and finish of the race and are proud to be playing our part in one of the community’s most iconic occasions of the sporting calendar.
“For us, this represents the opportunity to welcome hundreds of runners – as well as their friends and family – to Adams Park, many of whom may not have visited us before. We are making great strides in making this stadium an attractive venue for sporting events and we look forward to helping the Handy Cross Runners make the day a massive success.”
Chris Gentry, club secretary of Handy Cross Runners, said: “This year we have taken a fresh approach to revitalising the format of the race and making it a more enjoyable route for the runners, as well as attracting new participants who might never have taken part in our half marathon or 10k previously.
“We’re hugely grateful for the support of Wycombe Wanderers and we’re sure that finishing the race with a lap around the pitch will be a perfect way to end. I’d like to encourage as many people as possible to sign up, get training and come along with friends and family to take part.”
Entry to the race costs £24 in advance (£18 for the 10k) with a £2 discount for runners affiliated to England Athletics), or £30 on the day (£25 for the 10k) subject to availability of spaces. Runners must be aged 17 or over, and all finishers will receive a special commemorative medal, t-shirt and goody bag.
Wycombe Wanderers will be providing entertainment for all ages as well as refreshments for spectators, who will be able to watch their loved ones cross the finish line from the seats in the Beechdean Stand.
