Wanderers have launched their own channel on the social media platform Snapchat, as a result of a digital marketing plan for the club by Bucks New Uni students.Second year students from the Bucks Business School at the university were tasked as part of their assessment to develop a real-life plan for a sports club which would enhance its online presence and engage with existing and potential new supporters.
One group recommended the launch of a Snapchat, previously pioneered in football by the likes of Southampton and Yeovil Town, following its widespread popularity amongst predominantly younger audiences with an estimated 25% of all smartphone users having downloaded the app. The project also included 'best practice' tips, content ideas and case studies of where other clubs have found success in using the tool.
Snapchat is a photo and video sharing tool with a unique functionality whereby the image is only displayed for a brief period of time before disappearing forever, making it ideal for short, sharp, punchy content to be shared.
The club launched their account on Thursday and instantly used the platform to 'tease' details of a new signing, showing behind-the-scenes clues which led to the announcement of the capture of winger Myles Weston, as well as clips from the squad's return to pre-season training.
Snapchat will also be used on Sunday as part of the launch of the new O'Neills kits and then in France as the squad play their first friendly against Le Havre in Sarzeau.
