Tonight is the make or break match - Portugal vs Wales - which could end Joe Jacobson’s and Sido Jombati’s friendship.Throughout the Euro 2016 tournament so far, Welshman Jacobson has received plenty of slack following England’s victory over them in the group stage, however Joe has had the last laugh after topping the group whilst England could only come out second best.
He said: “Coming out on top ahead of England was a great moment for me. I got a lot of stick on Twitter but I brought that upon myself and I enjoyed it.”
Sido’s national team Portugal have also gathered some criticism due to their lack of flair and exciting performances which people are used to seeing with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo playing for their country.
“We started very bad in my opinion; we didn’t do very well but in the last game we improved so hopefully we get back to doing what we normally do best,” he told Chairboys PlayerHD.
The final - to be played in the Stade de France - is in both of the teams' sights with a must-win game. Joe is feeling the nerves as the match is just hours from kick-off because someone in particular won’t be leaving him alone if the result doesn’t go Wales’ way.
“The worst thing I said all tournament was I wouldn’t mind getting out in the first round as long as Wales didn’t lose to Portugal, because this guy (Sido) will not end that conversation for anything.”
Sido said: “Yeah I’m confident of getting to the final, I mean Portugal normally play well but we haven’t done that this tournament yet but hopefully next game we get back to winning ways.”
Jacobson couldn’t praise the Wales squad enough because of how far they have come already. “You've got to give credit to them, the manager and the coaching staff with all the team spirit and like Gareth Bale said before the England game, the passion they’ve got is second to none in this tournament which has carried them a long way.”
