Remembering the Somme: Wycombe Wanderers pay their respects 100 years on

1 July 2016

Players and staff at Wycombe Wanderers held a small ceremony to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme before training on Friday.

The bloodiest battle of World War I, the Somme took the lives of more than one million soldiers on July 1st 1916, and the Blues joined people across the globe in paying their respects to the fallen.

The group watched a short video of the club's trip to the Northern France battlefields in 2014 as manager Gareth Ainsworth spoke of the lessons of teamwork, commitment and spirit that can be learned from the soldiers who went 'over the top' to fight for their country, before observing a minute's silence in unison.
