Gareth Ainsworth has secured a significant signing with the capture of Michael Harriman on a permanent transfer from Queens Park Rangers. The 23-year-old has excelled for the club since arriving on loan in the summer, scoring six times and earning a nomination for the Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Month award in September.
Harriman has signed a three-and-a-half year contract which will keep him at Adams Park until 2019, and Ainsworth says he’s thrilled to make his loan star one of his own:
“Michael’s a player I’ve known for a number of years and he was one of my first loan signings when I became manager here. He’s got everything you want from a professional – he gives his all, he’s got bags of ability and he’s a great character to have around the club.
“To be able to keep him here is a fantastic piece of business and I’m grateful for the support of the board who have enabled me to make Michael a permanent signing.”
Michael said: “It’s a fantastic feeling for me to sign. I’ve played my best football here and this was the only place I wanted to be.
“This club makes you feel like home and I’m happy to be staying here for good.”
Chairman Andrew Howard: “This is the first time in my tenure as chairman that we have paid a transfer fee for a player, but I believe this signing shows our ambition to move forward as a club.
“Michael has become a very important part of the team and he epitomises the culture that we now have in place.”
The two clubs have agreed a fee which remains undisclosed as a condition of the deal.
Michael first signed on loan for the club in January 2013, playing 20 times at right-back before spending the following season with Gillingham. He was moved further forward into a wing-back role at Luton Town during an eight-month loan last season, and has been deployed in both defence and midfield at various times during the current campaign.
