McCarthy and Ugwu eager to build on Plymouth win

5 February 2016

Jason McCarthy and Gozie Ugwu, two of Wycombe's stand-out performers from the win at Plymouth last week, are hoping for an equally impressive display against Luton Town tomorrow (3pm k.o.).

McCarthy, who extended his loan from Southampton until the end of the season on deadline day, reverted to centre back for the 1-0 victory at Home Park and is delighted to be seeing out the campaign with the Chairboys.

He said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be staying for the rest of the season. Everything has been perfect since I have come in and the manager has been brilliant playing me in all of these games and it's really good for my own personal game.

"I have learnt so much since coming in and I am continuing to learn. The fans have been brilliant, I get on with all the players so it seemed like why not, let's go for it until the end of the season.

"It was a positive performance for the team [at Plymouth], and myself personally, to bounce back from three defeats in the league, get back on track and what a way to do it away to the team that's second in the table. It was an amazing win for us and we will be looking to continue on that good form against Luton."

Gozie was in a buoyant mood as his match-winning goal made all the difference against his former club last week, and he is eager to build on that starting with tomorrow's game.

He said: "It was nice to get a goal, I've been waiting for that one! But most importantly we got the win at Plymouth, which is a difficult place to go to. We worked hard and ground it out and got the win.

"Getting the goal early on settled the nerves a bit for the team and myself. Plymouth didn't make it easy for us and obviously with Lynchy going off it put us in quite a predicament.

"We are looking to build on the Plymouth game, we know Luton won't make it easy for us but we have got to play our game and look to get the three points."

The Chairboys will be looking to complete a league double over The Hatters at Adams Park, having secured a 2-0 win on Boxing Day at Kenilworth Road in what Jason described as 'one of the best performances of the season'.

He added: "It was a really good win and we will be looking to do the same on Saturday, continue this good form and get some wins together in the league."
