The Big Match Preview: Crawley Town

5 August 2016

All you need to know ahead of the Sky Bet League Two curtain-raiser at the Stadium on Saturday (k.o. 3pm).

Crawley Town vs Wycombe Wanderers
Saturday 6th August 2016, k.o. 3pm Stadium, RH11 9RX
Referee: Nicholas Kinseley

It's almost time. After 13 weeks without league action, the Chairboys are back - and ready to attack.

Pre-season preparations have gone well for Gareth Ainsworth's men, who head into the game off the back of a comfortable and impressive 4-1 win at Maidenhead United last weekend.

Goals were in short supply towards the back end of last year, but the captures of Adebayo Akinfenwa, Dayle Southwell, Myles Weston and Paris Cowan-Hall could go a long way to addressing that problem and each will keen to impress on day one, hoping to continue the trend which has seen a summer signing score in the first game in each of the past six seasons.

Standing in their way are a much-changed Crawley outfit, who have been the busiest EFL club in the transfer market since appointing Dermot Drummy, who begins his first managerial role having previously coached at Arsenal and Chelsea.

Amongst his summer captures have been former Chairboy Jason Banton plus prolific League Two marksman James Collins, although the loss of midfielder Gwion Edwards to Peterborough United may be a blow to their hopes.

Ainsworth hopes to be able to recall several players who missed last weekend's friendly as a precaution following injury, as they bid to replicate their strong start of last season where they collected a club record three consecutive wins at the start of the campaign.

Virtually all of the Chairboys' initial allocation of 400 tickets were snapped up in advance but there will be plenty available for fans who wish to pay on the day, at no extra cost.
