Saints march on as Royals are rumbled

21 September 2015

Southampton came out on top in an enthralling Barclays Under-21 Premier League tie against Reading, winning 5-2 at Adams Park on Monday evening.

It was the first of five Royals fixtures to be hosted at Adams Park and the BT Sport cameras were present to broadcast a thrilling encounter which saw five goals scored in the first half alone.

Saints defender Harrison Reed and Reading striker Rowan Liburd exchanged early goals before Sam McQueen and Ryan Seager gave Southampton a two-goal cushion, only for Reed's own goal to narrow the deficit at half-time.

Jake Hesketh scored the sixth goal of the night and Ryan Seager's low drive soon followed to make it 5-2 in front of a crowd of 253 which included Chairboys assistant manager Richard Dobson, who was casting his eye over the talent on show.
