Gareth Ainsworth has made an exciting addition to his squad with the capture of forward Jason Banton on an initial one-year deal. The 22-year-old left Plymouth Argyle in the summer having impressed against the Chairboys in the two play-off semi-final meetings between the clubs, scoring in the first leg at Home Park.
Ainsworth said: “Jason is the type of player who will get supporters on their feet and I’m delighted to bring him here.
“He’s got pace, trickery and he can be the spark that can win you a game with one moment of magic. We saw what he’s capable of in the play-offs and we’re confident we can bring that out of him on a consistent basis and make this club his home.”
Banton developed through the youth systems at Arsenal and Blackburn Rovers before signing professional deals with Liverpool and Leicester City, and made his Football League debut during a loan spell with Burton Albion.
He switched to Crystal Palace and his career took off during a loan spell at Plymouth where he won the League 2 Player of the Month award, scoring six times in 14 appearances.
A loan spell at MK Dons followed in the 2013/14 campaign and he returned to Plymouth last season, making his move permanent in January and playing 40 times in total.
