Gareth Ainsworth has agreed a deal to bring former Queens Park Rangers and Brentford midfielder Marcus Bean to the club. The 31-year-old has been released from his contract at League 1 club Colchester United and signed an 18-month contract with the Chairboys.
Ainsworth said: “I’m really pleased that Marcus wanted to join us. I know him well from my QPR days and I’ve watched his career progress ever since. He’s always played at a higher level and he’ll add another dimension to the midfield.
“He’s been doing really well on loan at Portsmouth - he wins headers, he wins tackles and he’s a great lad who will fit right in to the culture we’ve got here.”
The midfielder came through the youth team at QPR and made his professional debut at Adams Park in a 4-1 defeat to the Wanderers in 2002, before going on to play more than 50 games in a four-year spell with the Rs.
He spent two spells on loan at Swansea City before making a permanent switch to Blackpool in 2006, and was then transferred to Brentford, where he enjoyed regular first-team football throughout his four-year stint, making over 150 appearances.
Colchester United was his next stop in 2012 prior to his loan spell with Portsmouth in December, where he impressed manager Andy Awford who then signalled his intention to bring him to Fratton Park on a permanent basis.
However, the lure of a reunion with former QPR team-mate Gareth Ainsworth has persuaded Bean to put pen to paper at Adams Park.
Marcus will wear squad number 8.
