Alfie Mawson’s loan deal from Brentford has been extended until the end of the season following an outstanding first half of the season with the Wanderers. The central defender joined on a short-term deal as injury cover just 24 hours before the start of the season, but quickly made a name for himself alongside former Bees team-mate Aaron Pierre with a string of fine displays.
Mawson – who scored his first goal for the club in a 3-1 win at Hartlepool in November – was due to return to Griffin Park following the expiration of his previous loan deal on January 1st, but has been allowed to continue his development under Gareth Ainsworth until May.
Ainsworth said: “Alfie had never played a Football League game before he came to us and slotted into the team like a seasoned professional from the very first day. His performances have been of a consistently high standard and it’s great for Wycombe Wanderers that we’re able to keep him and aid his development for the whole season.
“We have a great relationship with Brentford and would like to thank them for entrusting us with one of their young talents and allowing him to stay with us.”
Alfie’s loan deal does not include a recall clause and includes the duration of the play-offs if required.
