The Sports & Education Trust (SET) are asking fans to 'drop their drawers' at Wanderers' home match against Crawley Town on Monday 28th December.SET have recently developed a new partnership with the Wycombe Homeless Connection, a local community project of Wycombe churches which serves around 400 single adult homeless or vulnerably housed individuals each year.
To kick things off, the two organisations are working together this Christmas to encourage as many Wanderers fans as possible to donate a new pair of boxer shots or underpants (medium and/or large) to a collection at Adams Park ahead of the game against Crawley.
The reason for this is the fact that men’s boxer shorts are perhaps the one item of clothing that are in the shortest supply by those organisations that work with the homeless across the length and breadth of the country. There are an enormous number of people living on the streets who would cherish a new pair of boxers to wear and the added warmth that they would provide.
In addition, any other donations of sleeping bags, coats, jackets, jumpers, socks, gloves and tracksuit bottoms would be hugely appreciated.
James Boultbee, Operations Manager at WHC, said:
“We’re delighted to be partnering with WWSET and receiving donations from WWFC fans. As a small, local charity, we rely heavily on local goodwill to help us with our work. We assist about 400 local people every year that are homeless or at severe risk of it. They are often folk like you and I who have fallen on hard times: redundancy, relationship breakdown and the end of a tenancy are the most common causes and it’s a scary fact that most people are often just two pay cheques from homelessness.
“We promise that every single item donated to us by the Wycombe Wanderers fans will be used efficiently. Anything you bring to the match on 28th December will be of direct benefit to the homeless people in Wycombe that we help. Please bring (new) men's boxer shorts which are always in short supply and high demand…as well as any unwanted socks, waterproof jackets, hats, gloves, tracksuit bottoms and sleeping bags. Unwanted Christmas presents are just fine!"
Please spread the word and give anything you can either at the Crawley match, or alternatively drop any donations in to the Sports & Education Trust office at Adams Park over the coming weeks!
