Matt Bloomfield is looking forward to the test of playing higher league opposition as Wycombe head to League 1 side Millwall in the Emirates FA Cup second round on Saturday (k.o. 3pm).“It’s an opportunity to get into the third round which hasn’t happened too many times over the last few years,” he told Chairboys PlayerHD. “Millwall are doing great in League 1 in seventh and their home record is decent, so it’s going to be a really tough game. But we are proud footballers and we want to go out there and test ourselves against a team in a higher division.”
The Blues exited the competition at this stage last season to AFC Wimbledon, who went on to face Liverpool in the third round, and Bloomfield is using that disappointment as motivation for this year.
He said: “That was a real kick in the teeth. We had a tie at home against same league opposition and you’d want to win and get through to the third round, so that was disappointing.
“We have to use that as motivation as you never know what the third round is going to throw up. Nothing is expected of us to go there and win so we can try and get a result and look forward to an exciting third round draw and create a buzz for the supporters; they’ll enjoy an FA Cup run just as much as the players would.”
