Aaron Pierre's second-half header made it three wins out of three for Gareth Ainsworth's Wanderers.The colossal defender powered home an effort from Joe Jacobson's free-kick in a game of few chances to send 181 loud and proud Chairboys fans home happy.
Injuries to centre-backs Anthony Stewart and Danny Rowe prompted Gareth Ainsworth into a reshuffle in defence with Sido Jombati moving into the middle while Michael Harriman dropped into right-back.
Morecambe began brightly with an attacking trio of Kevin Ellison, Lee Molyneux and Andy Fleming interchanging smartly behind Shaun Miller to stretch the visiting backline, but Matt Ingram remained untested as the Wycombe defence dealt well with deliveries into their box.
It was the Chairboys who had the better chances in the opening 45 minutes, with Sam Wood’s lob being cleared off the line and his header going wide from Paul Hayes’ cross, while Stephen McGinn fired wide after excellent work from Garry Thompson down the left.
Aaron Pierre and Sido Jombati remained impassable in defence with a commanding display which continued into the second period as Wycombe began brightly and with more vigour than the first, with Joe Jacobson’s free-kick fizzing past the post from long range.
Paul Hayes tested Barry Roche with a first-time volley from a tight angle before Michael Harriman kept the game goalless with a superb goal-line clearance as Kevin Ellison was poised to tap home.
Matt Ingram got down well to save low shots from Lee Molyneux and Tom Barkhuizen before Ryan Edwards fired wide when he met a corner from the left.
However, the breakthrough came on 74 minutes when Aaron Pierre met Joe Jacobson’s free-kick with an inch-perfect header into the bottom corner.
Jacobson cleared off the line at the other end before Hayes drilled over in stoppage time, but Wanderers held on for their third straight victory and clean sheet to ensure a perfect start to the new league campaign.
