The latest instalment of your stories of following the Chairboys.Where do you sit/stand? My first season ticket was in block G of the family stand but since 2004 I have resided in block R of the Frank Adams stand. A great view of the pitch and being down towards the home end makes for a good atmosphere.
Who do you come to games with? My dad, uncle and a mate and from time to time other family and friends.
How long have you been a supporter? Since 1996, though if I had my way it would have been some time before that!
What made you first start coming to matches? My dad and uncle have been attending Wycombe matches since the early 90’s and I was finally allowed to go when I reached my 6th birthday.
What was your first match as a fan? A friendly against Southampton in August 1996; a Terry Evans goal gave the Blues a 1-0 victory.
What has been your favourite moment supporting the club? Many moments stick out but the highlight has to be watching the team in the F.A Cup semi-final at Villa Park against Liverpool - a surreal day and season.
Who’s the best player you’ve seen during your time as a fan? Rob Lee and Steven Taylor oozed class in their short spells at the club but Martin Taylor was a high-class keeper for the Blues for many years. Only until a few seasons after he left, when Wycombe went through a string of different keepers, did many realise what a miss he was. He was a big reason that the team made the F.A Cup semis in 2001.
Who’s been your favourite player to wear the quarters and why? Sean Devine. His heroics in 1999 to keep us up and his glut of goals the following season were a joy to watch. His ability to score in the big games meant he was a vital player for the team.
Tell us a funny story from your time supporting the club? A couple of years ago my dad and I attended an away match at Dagenham and Redbridge. My uncle knew there was a game that weekend against Dagenham but wasn’t sure if he could make it or not. Part way through the first half at Dagenham we received a call from said uncle saying that he’d never seen Adams Park looking so quiet!
What does the club mean to you? Like any true supporter, supporting a football club is like a continuous rollercoaster. WWFC will always get preferential treatment on my weekends!
Describe Wycombe Wanderers in three words: Unpredictable, Proud, Courageous.
