20 April 2015

Alfie Mawson's outstanding debut season resulted in a runner-up prize at last night's Football League Awards.

The centre-back was nominated alongside Shrewsbury's Ryan Woods and Bury's Danny Mayor for the title of Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Year, with the award going to the Bury winger.

Mawson attended the dinner with manager Gareth Ainsworth, assistant Richard Dobson and coach Barry Richardson amongst others, where a number of prizes were handed out to worthy winners across the three divisions.

Fellow loanee Fred Onyedinma was also shortlisted for the Championship Apprentice of the Year award, which went to Leeds United's Lewis Cook.

Meanwhile, Wanderers' club doctor Gina Allan was named our 'club hero' after more than 20 years' service, joining representatives from each of the 72 league clubs in being acknowledged at the awards ceremony.
