Chairman Andrew Howard penned his first notes of the season in Saturday's matchday programme. It gives me great pleasure to write my first programme notes as Chairman of Wycombe Wanderers. Having taken up the role in August this year, I am delighted to write this with the team currently sitting in the top three after a fantastic start to the season.
I have to be honest and say the performances have far outweighed the expectations that we had set out at the start of the campaign, and that’s a great credit to the manager, his players and to everyone who works so hard to make sure they are fully prepared for every game they go into.
The attitude around the club has been great over the last few months but nobody is getting carried away. It’s no secret that this club was in a bad way towards the end of last season, and the rebuilding process will have to be slow and steady, taking one small step at a time.
It’s a challenge that I’m fully committed to, and am excited to be a part of. My involvement with Wycombe Wanderers may only go back a few years, from my time as a sponsor with Beechdean Ice Cream, but I’ve grown extremely fond of the place and my decision to come on board was based on my genuine belief that we – together – can make this a special club for everyone to enjoy.
The obvious question – and the one I’ve been asked more than any other – is “How?”. And my answer goes back to my previous comment, that progress won’t come overnight and there’s no magic wand to fill Adams Park and get us ticking all the right boxes as a well-run, commercial business.
But by building the right team of people at the core of the club, and with a clear strategy to work towards, we’ll be able to make improvements in all areas. You may have already noticed the better quality of food and delivery of service in the bars and kiosks, and we’ve welcomed some new sponsors into the club who are excited about working with us in the months and years to come. Above all, you’ll have experienced a new-found spirit and togetherness on the pitch, which has brought results and performances for everyone to be proud of.
We have some excellent opportunities coming up for us to showcase the club and the stadium, and are proud to be hosting the FA WSL Continental Cup Final, as well as the Wycombe Business Expo, both of which will welcome new visitors into Adams Park and enable them to sample the changes for themselves.
We’re also getting out into the community and you’ll see a greater presence from Wycombe Wanderers around the town and at events, fetes, shows and exhibitions.
All we ask from you is for your patience, and for your trust, as we work together towards making the right changes for the good of the club. The journey involves many people loyal to Wycombe Wanderers and whilst we can’t please all the people all the time, I hope we can deliver a club everyone is proud of.
Thanks, and enjoy the game,
