Gareth Ainsworth has secured an important piece of business on transfer deadline day by extending the loan deal of centre-back Alfie Mawson until January 1st.The 20-year-old joined the Blues from Brentford just hours before the opening day of the new Football League campaign, where he excelled in the 2-0 victory over Newport County.
Mawson has continued to shine alongside former Brentford team-mate Aaron Pierre and Ainsworth has moved to prolong the youngster’s time at Adams Park, which was due to come to an end after Saturday’s meeting with Bury.
Ainsworth said: “Alfie has been outstanding for us, particularly for someone so young who had only played a handful of senior games before he came here.
“He and Aaron have formed an excellent partnership at the back and it’s a real boost for us to retain his services until January.”
Mawson said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far – it’s been a great experience and I’ve learned a lot on and off the pitch.
“I’ve known Aaron for a few years so it really helped coming into a club where I knew someone. We’re really good mates on and off the pitch.
“It’s a very close-knit group and I’ve got a lot of respect for the gaffer. Now I’ve got the chance to push on and keep improving during my time here.”
