Gareth Ainsworth and chairman Andrew Howard met two Arsenal stars ahead of their FA WSL Continental Cup Final at Adams Park.Gunners full-backs Alex Scott and Emma Mitchell visited The Great Marlow School and Adams Park ahead of the much-anticipated FA WSL Continental Cup 2014 final against Manchester City Women on Thursday 16th October (kick-off 7.45pm).
The Arsenal stars were given a warm welcome by staff and pupils, despite the adverse weather conditions. To add to the excitement, school children had a chance to meet the players and take part in exclusive coaching sessions put on by tournament sponsor, Continental Tyres.
Pupils received top tips in a Conti WarmUp session, a free programme to help coaches prepare players for training or competition and minimise the risk of injury, before showcasing their skills in front of the onlooking Arsenal players. After the sessions were over, the school children had the chance to ask their burning questions about what it is like to play for Arsenal Ladies, and win the FA WSL Continental Cup.
Alex Scott said: “It has been fantastic to visit The Great Marlow School today and meet some of the pupils. We really enjoyed taking part in the sessions and talking about life in the FA WSL. We're really excited to be in the Continental Cup Final once again. We played Man City recently and won, so confidence is high. Hopefully we can put on a show and entertain the crowd.”
The players then hot-footed it over to Adams Park where they were met with a resounding welcome from Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth and chairman Andrew Howard.
Ainsworth said: “We are very excited to be hosting this year’s Continental Cup Final; it is great for the local community. I am hoping that there will be a good crowd and I would certainly encourage people to come down and enjoy the spectacle.”
Whilst Arsenal will be looking to lift the trophy for a fourth consecutive season, Manchester City will be aiming to buck the trend in what is their first ever FA WSL Continental Cup Final appearance, in their first season in FA WSL 1.
