Woody stays with Wanderers

23 May 2014

Wanderers have received a huge boost with the news that Sam Wood has put pen to paper on a new contract with the club, which will keep him at Adams Park until 2016.

The popular 27-year-old arrived from Brentford two years ago and has impressed at both left-back and left-midfield in his 87 appearances in light and dark blue, scoring five times including a Goal of the Season winner on his debut at York City.

‘Woody’ follows Gary Doherty and new arrivals Paul Hayes and Aaron Pierre in committing to Gareth Ainsworth’s squad for the new season, and the Blues boss is delighted to keep his man:

“Sam is a really important part of my plans and to keep him here is a massive plus for me, his team-mates and the supporters,” said Ainsworth.

“He’s coming into the prime of his career and it’s great he’s agreed to be a part of our plans for the next two seasons.”

“He’s got an excellent delivery, he’s versatile and he’s got just the sort of character I want around the dressing room.”

Sam said: “I’ve grown really fond of the club in my two years here and I’m delighted to sign for another two years.

“You can tell from the gaffer’s signings so far that we’re moving in the right direction and I can’t wait to get stuck into the new season.”
