Wanderers were left to rue a poor first-half display as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Bootham Crescent.
Gareth Ainsworth made two changes to his side with loan signing Sam Togwell in for his debut and Jo Kuffour coming into the attack.
Jesse Kewley-Graham was named amongst the substitutes, while Matt McClure missed out the ankle injury he sustained against Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday.
The hosts were fast out of the traps and Lanre Oyebanjo cut into the area and found Michael Coulson, whose first-time shot was cleared off the line by Marvin McCoy in the opening 60 seconds.
Ryan Bowman was then just unable to reach Coulson’s cross as York dominated early on. The Minstermen didn't have to wait long for the opener though as it came in the seventh minute when Morgan was adjudged to have fouled Carson in the area and Bowman dispatched the spot-kick.
Wanderers responded well and Morgan fired wide under pressure after a quick break involving Sam Wood and Nick Arnold.
York thought they had doubled their advantage in the 10th minute when Keith Lowe powered home a header from Will Hayhurst’s corner, but his effort was ruled out by the referee.
Hayhurst almost scored himself two minutes later when his corner hit the bar, but a foul had already been awarded as Ingram was blocked off.
Chairboys improved as the half wore on, but chances were few and far between for Gareth Ainsworth’s men.
The impressive Coulson almost provided Bowman with a tap-in in the 25th minute, but the former Hereford United striker was on his heels and couldn't reach the dangerous low cross. Russell Penn then curled wide after being found on the edge of the area.
Blues were seeing more of the ball, but York keeper Nick Pope wasn't called into action apart from to claim a series of corners, and their first real chance came in the 38th minute when Arnold got underneath the ball and fired well over the bar from the edge of the area.
Chairboys almost levelled as the half entered added time as Wood found Arnold on the left and his low cross looked destined to be turned in by Togwell, only for Ben Davies to clear over his own bar.
That spurned opportunity proved costly as the hosts doubled their advantage less than a minute later. Wanderers’ short-corner routine was intercepted by York who broke at pace before Carson cut in and fired past Ingram from the edge of the area. Blues’ No.1 got two hands to the effort but was unable to keep it out.
Blues looked to have changed to an orthodox 4-4-2 formation at the break and they started the second half well, despite not fully testing Pope.
Ingram comfortably saved from Hayhurst following Coulson’s clever reverse pass, and Ainsworth made his first change seven minutes after the restart with Steven Craig replacing Morgan.
The striker almost made an instant impact as he reacted quickest to Kuffour’s cut-back and poked goalwards, only for Pope to produce a smart stop low to his right.
Ingram kept Wanderers in the contest on the hour when he produced a fine save to deny Hayhurst after a mistake in defence, and Ainsworth made his second change a minute later with Reece Styche coming on for Kuffour.
Arnold curled a 25-yard free-kick straight at Pope, before Ainsworth made his final sub 20 minutes from time with Jeffrey replacing Kretzschmar.
Johnson cleared Hayhurst’s effort off the line after Bowman had broken free on the left, but it was Wanderers who should have grabbed a goal 10 minutes from time.
A long ball over the top wasn't dealt with and sent Craig through on goal. The striker steadied himself before striking against the foot of the post, the rebound fell to Craig, but it came back too quickly and his touch let him down.
Things went from bad to worse for Wanderers in added time as Togwell and Penn went in for a 50/50 challenge and the loanee was shown a second yellow card and sent off.
