Gareth Ainsworth heaped praise on Aaron Pierre after the Brentford loanee’s impressive Wanderers debut against Burton Albion on Tuesday.
Ainsworth opted to rest Leon Johnson for the game, starting with Pierre alongside Anthony Stewart at the heart of the defence.
“Leon has played near enough every game for me lately and he was very tired on Saturday
“It was my call [to start Pierre] and obviously we’ll see what happens this Saturday. Whoever I put in should be up to the task.
“Aaron Pierre played really well. He was solid and he’s a big lad, he’s very fit. He could have had a goal actually – he was inches away from scoring at the other end.
“But he’s on a losing side and I’m sure Aaron won’t be bothered about his debut, he’ll just be bothered about putting it right on Saturday.
“When we go to Scunthorpe we need to be strong, refreshed, positive; they’re one of the top teams in the league and we’re going to be up against it, but it’s the type of game we can go and win.”
Can Pierre open the deadlock at Glanford Park on Saturday? The centre-back is 33/1 to give Chairboys the lead against high-flying Scunthorpe United.
