Away guide: Glanford Park

28 March 2014

Wanderers travel to second-placed Scunthorpe on Saturday and wwfc.com are here with all the information you need for the trip.

Glanford Park,

Jack Brownsword Way,

Scunthorpe,

DN15 8TD

Recommended road directions

Take the usual route to the northbound M1 (M40 west, exiting at Junction 10 to take A43 towards Northampton and joining the M1 at Junction 15A). At Junction 32 join the M18 (signposted The North, Doncaster). Continue to Junction 5 and join the M180, signposted Grimsby. Leave the M180 at Junction 3 and take the M181 for Scunthorpe. At the end of the motorway, you will see the ground on your right. Turn right at the first roundabout onto the A18 and right again into the large car park at the ground.

Coach Travel

OWWSA will be running a coach that will leave the Railway Station at 8:40am and the Cinema at 9am. There will be no departure from Adams Park as there is a London Wasps game. Travel prices are £22 for Adults, £21 for students/seniors, and £20 for children. Places cost £3 extra for non-members. The preferred way to book is by calling into the Vere Suite today. If you wish to book by phone (01296 429307) or by email (bookings@owwsa.co.uk) you need to do so by Thursday at 5pm. After that time OWWSA cannot guarantee you a seat on the coach. They will try and accommodate everyone who books this way, until the coach is full.

Travelling by rail?

This is a good service from London Kings Cross, changing at Doncaster, and the journey time is between two and three hours. The station however is over two miles from the ground. Walking directions: Turn left outside station and head towards the crossroads (facing a church) and turn right into Oswald Road. Go past a set of traffic lights and the “Honest Lawyer” and “Blue Bell” pubs. At the next traffic lights turn left into Doncaster Road (this has a number of fast food outlets). Go straight down this road and you will eventually reach Glanford Park on your left.

Facilities for away fans

Away fans are housed in the South Stand at one end. This is all seated and can house 1,650 supporters. Although there are a couple of supporting pillars in this stand, the view is generally okay. A good selection of refreshments is available. Car Parking is available at the ground for 600 cars (£3). There is limited street parking available.

Around the stadium

Right by the ground stands “The Old Farmhouse”' pub. This admits away fans providing that they are not wearing team colours. There is also “The Berkeley” that is popular with away supporters. To find this hostelry follow the main road towards Scunthorpe and it is on the left hand corner of the first roundabout you reach. If coming by train, then “The Honest Lawyer” on Oswald Road is well worth a visit. Although a modern pub inside, it has been listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide and has a number of beers on offer. Also on Oswald Road is “The Blue Bell” which is a Wetherspoons outlet. Across the road from the ground there is a Retail Park with a number of eating outlets such as a KFC & McDonalds.
