Gareth Ainsworth’s squad for the 2014/15 season has received a huge boost this afternoon with the news that captain Stuart Lewis has agreed to a new one-year deal to remain at Adams Park.
The 26-year-old has been a virtual ever-present in the side since his arrival from Dagenham and Redbridge in 2010, making 133 appearances in the engine room of midfield and finding the net on six occasions.
He said: "I think everyone knows how much this club means to me and there's nowhere else I'd rather be. I've had a real rollercoaster journey here with a promotion, relegation and that amazing day at Torquay a few weeks ago, and I can't wait to play my part in making sure next season is one to remember for all the right reasons.
"It's a real honour to play for the manager and I've made a lot of good friends here on and off the pitch, so I'm delighted to be staying."
Gareth Ainsworth said: "Stu gets everyone going, he gives 100% week in, week out, and that's the kind of character I want in my team.
"I'm really happy with the way the squad's coming together for the new season and was very keen to make sure Stu is a part of that, so to have him on board for another year is great news."
Lewis follows Matt Bloomfield, Sam Wood, Steven Craig, Gary Doherty, Charlie Horlock and Tommy Fletcher in committing themselves to the club this summer, alongside new arrivals Paul Hayes, Aaron Pierre and Sido Jombati.
The former Tottenham Hotspur youngster is currently away on holiday but will link up with his team-mates once again when pre-season training kicks off in three weeks’ time.
