Report: Cheshunt 2-3 Wycombe

12 July 2014

Matt McClure scored two first-half goals as Wanderers overcame Cheshunt in their first pre-season friendly ahead of the 2014/15 campaign.

The striker bagged his brace in quick succession, heading home a cross from Nathan Evans before tapping Josh Scowen's low delivery past the keeper.

Cheshunt battled back to level after the break with two goals in as many minutes from Tunde Adewunmi, capitalising firstly after Wycombe failed to clear a cross and then lobbing Alex Lynch from a lofted through-ball from 20 yards.

However, Gareth Ainsworth's men secured the win in the dying stages when Nic Barratt turned Paris Cowan-Hall's cross past his own keeper to seal the victory for the visitors.

Ainsworth fielded a different side in each half for the trips to Theobalds Lane, handing starts to summer recruits Aaron Pierre, Joe Jacobson, Nathan Evans, Peter Murphy and Paul Hayes in a 4-3-3 formation, with trialist Aaron Holloway also involved in attack.

The second period saw the Blues revert to a 4-4-2 formation with Alex Lynch and Sido Jombati enjoying their first taste of action for the club, while trialists Jamie Tank, Adam Nditi and Leon Mannion were all keen to impress.

Wycombe 1st Half: Ingram, Scowen, Jacobson, Doherty, Pierre, Evans, Murphy, Wood, Hayes, Holloway, McClure.

Wycombe 2nd Half: Lynch, Jombati, Nditi, Fletcher, Tank, Cowan-Hall, Kretzschmar, Lewis, Morias, Craig, Mannion.
