An open letter from Matt Bloomfield

19 July 2014

Wanderers legend pens a note to supporters after an incredible testimonial night against Chelsea.

Now that the dust has settled for a few days, I just wanted to put on record my sincerest thanks to everyone who made Wednesday night such a special occasion.

My wife, my family, my closest friends and the supporters who I have grown so close to were all there to enjoy the moment and celebrate the occasion together. For you guys to make the evening such a roaring success showed everyone what a special club Wycombe Wanderers is.

The build up to the day just seemed to gather momentum. Matt Cecil was instrumental in this and has been the biggest influence on the whole testimonial year. He is one of the nicest guys I have ever met and I hope he understands how thankful I am for his help.

He collected quotes from team-mates down the years and I had no idea the he was going to release the quotes on Twitter throughout the morning, so I was checking social media as much as anyone else to see who was next. It was such a cool idea.

When I sat down with my testimonial committee to discuss our possible options for the game, the idea that we would be able to attract a club of the stature of Chelsea was just a dream. To be able to make that a reality was such a thrill and we were so lucky that it all fell into place.

Chelsea acted with such humility and grace and their management, players and supporters were so supportive and respectful of the evening which I thank them wholeheartedly for.

To receive a standing ovation from all four stands made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and I certainly felt a bit emotional as I left the pitch.

Once again, thank you all for all your support through my ten and a half years here, none more so than on Wednesday evening. I will remember it forever.
