“I hope whoever goes, if they go, will look back at their time with Wycombe and think ‘Thank you for my chance, thank you for my springboard’.”

“I’ve brought in three so if I have to sacrifice one, it happens. That’s football and then it’s about finding the next one.

“If we get to 11pm on Friday night and nothing’s happened, I’ll be happy. If something has to happen, I totally understand. This club has had to do that year in, year out.

He added: “Going out wise, the last day can be manic and I wouldn’t count out anything happening.

“Reece has done fantastic, Anthony is a work in progress and I thought Jordan had a good game on Tuesday night. They’ve settled in well and they’ll be doing their songs up at Bury!”

“They’ll be nothing coming in – I’m very thankful for the backing I got,” the 40-year-old told Chairboys Player.

Ainsworth says he won’t be adding to the signings of Jordan Mustoe, Anthony Jeffrey and Reece Styche, but admits the final few hours of the window could see someone leave Adams Park.
