Leon Johnson says the victories over Chesterfield and Exeter City mean that Wanderers will travel to his former side Southend United on Saturday full of confidence.
Back-to-back wins have extended Blues’ unbeaten run to four games, and Johnson, who has played a major role in keeping three clean sheets during that time, believes Wanderers have enough to upset the odds again at Roots Hall.
“Exeter were obviously the home team and they were going to be on top for periods of the game and it was about weathering the storm on Tuesday,” the centre-back told Chairboys Player.
“We did that and after we got the goal we looked good. We probably got a little bit deeper in the last 15/20 minutes, trying to defend what we had, but they were putting five or six players up top.
“We defended well and back-to-back wins shouldn’t be underestimated.
“We had been on a bad run and earlier on in the season teams were scoring late against us, but I think we’ve turned a corner.
“It’s back-to-back wins, confidence is high and I don’t see why we can’t we go to Southend now and get another three points.”
Johnson added: “The fans were great on Saturday and were great against Exeter. They’re the 12th man and if they can get behind us again then that’s great.
“We’re playing for the shirt and working for the team, they’ve been really good for us.”
