Gaz: Make yourself the main man

10 February 2014

Gareth Ainsworth has challenged his strikers to come to the fore and start a scoring run.

Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Accrington Stanley made it three games without a goal for Wanderers, and Blues’ boss wants his frontmen to stake a claim for a regular starting role by finding the back of the net on a more consistent basis.
He added: “We have a good amount of centre-forwards here now and I’ll be thinking about what I want to do Tuesday because Fleetwood will come down strong.

Ainsworth has options to choose from on Tuesday with fit-again Morgan suffering no ill-effects from his first 90 minutes since late December, while Reece Styche, Steven Craig and Matt McClure also featured with Jo Kuffour an unused substitute. Fellow striker Jon-Paul Pittman is also in contention following his recovery from injury.

“It didn't come for the forwards against Accrington but it will do, and when it does come they have got to be ready to take their chances.”

“Maybe we've got to have one person absolutely on fire. They have all shared them out - we need someone to go, ‘Right, I'll take it on, I'll be the goalscorer’.

“I believe we've got some good goalscorers - we seem to have spread the goals out this year rather than one person getting them all.

“Goalscorers are hard to come by and that's why they get paid the most money in this league,” Ainsworth said.

We might have to chuck something different in if we are to get anything out of the game.  “We need them to step up and start scoring goals. They know they can score goals - now it's a case of get your shooting boots on and let's finish the season with a flurry.”

Tickets for the game are available from just £5 for juniors (8-18), £9 for young adults (19-25), £11 for seniors (60 and over) and £15 for adults. Children (7 and under) are FREE.
