Blues snap up Pierre

28 February 2014

Boss Gareth Ainsworth has strengthened his defensive options with the signing of Brentford centre-back Aaron Pierre on a one-month loan deal.

With Gary Doherty suffering a serious arm injury in the victory over Chesterfield, Blues were light in numbers at the back, and Ainsworth acted quickly to snap up the 21-year-old.

Pierre started his career at Fulham before making the move to Griffin Park, and he has gone on to make three appearances so far for the Bees, with two of those coming this season.

Pierre has also spent time on loan at Cambridge United this campaign and scored in their FA Trophy win over St Albans City.

“He’ll add to the squad and he’s a centre-back who can fill in at right-back if necessary,” Ainsworth told “He’s very strong, senses danger and is a no-nonsense defender.

“He can be a threat in the opposition box as well and he’s very much in the Anthony Stewart mould. He’s a quick, powerful and young defender.

“With Doc breaking his arm, the intention was to add to the squad and the board have been great. We’ve used the contacts we’ve got at Brentford and a big thank you must go to Mark Warburton for letting us have him for a month.”

Ainsworth added: “When I first took the job last year I saw him at Brentford and he stood out for me. He’s a year down the line now and has been out on loan at Cambridge, which was good experience for him.

“If he comes into the league now and replicates that then he’ll be a very good addition. The defence have done well though so he may have to wait his turn for now, but I’m sure Aaron will be getting some minutes in the month that he’s here.”

Pierre has been named in the squad for tomorrow’s trip to Southend and has been handed the No.19 shirt.
