McClure's back in contention

3 April 2014

Wanderers have been handed a fitness boost ahead of Saturday’s game with Dagenham & Redbridge after Matt McClure returned to training.

The striker has missed Blues’ last three games with a hamstring injury, but could now be back in contention.

Centre-backs Leon Johnson and Anthony Stewart remain doubts because of hamstring complaints, while Paris Cowan-Hall is still working his way back from an ankle injury.

“Matt McClure is back in training, but Paris hasn’t trained yet. He’s still out with his injury, but he’s not far away,” Gareth Ainsworth told Chairboys Player.

“Paris is a big player for us especially when you want to play with wide men. He also does well up font and is great in the air so he’s a big loss.

“I still think Matty is one of the best finishers I have at the club and having Matt McClure back around is important because he can always pop up with a goal.”

Ainsworth added:“Anthony and Leon are both doing well. If you’re out with a major hamstring then you’re out for six to eight weeks and that’s your season gone.

“I think these have both come from fatigue as they’ve played a lot recently and it’s been a mammoth effort.

“Theo Farley and his team will be getting them back as quickly as possible. Whether they make Saturday or not we’ll have to see.”
