Gareth Ainsworth and Matt McClure moved to praise the travelling Wanderers faithful after the 2-0 triumph at Exeter City.
Wanderers face two more lengthy away trips to Hartlepool United and Plymouth Argyle before returning to Adams Park on Saturday 21st September to take on York City.
“They had to rush off from work to get down there and support us – sometimes I don’t why they do it! – but we’re very grateful. We repaid them tonight.”
“It’s a Tuesday night and they’ve got work tomorrow, and they’ve had work today.
McClure said: “Me and Stuart Lewis were saying in the warm up that you’ve got to take your hat off to them.
“To see the familiar faces getting behind the team, they are now identifying with the players. The fans are loving it, the players are loving it and I’m loving it. Let’s hope we can continue this form.”
“They were great, signing at the end, just as they were on Saturday against Southend.
“If I could say 57 thank yous without taking up too much tape then I would,” said the 40-year-old Chairboys chief.
Ainsworth’s men were superbly backed by 57 Blues fans as Wycombe safely secured their passage into round two of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
