Matt hoping for more minutes

3 September 2013

Matt Bloomfield is excited at the possibility of upping his match fitness in tonight’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie at Exeter City.

Gareth Ainsworth was understandably delighted to welcome Bloomfield back into the fold.

"I had a good cool down on Sunday and trained with the lads on Monday. It’s about building gradually and getting stronger, fitter and sharper. So far, so good."

"Maybe I can get on the pitch for a few minutes at Exeter. Obviously coming three days after my first appearance of the season, it would be nice to get back on the pitch again.

"It was brilliant at the weekend, obviously I was delighted to get back on the pitch," he told Chairboys Player.

The all-action midfielder made his return from almost a year on the sidelines on Saturday, playing the final 20 minutes of the 2-1 success over Southend United. He said: "Matty Bloomfield has been out for a year. He’s signed for a 10th

year now and he’s worked really hard. He went to Kenya to do the Community Trust thing and he didn’t have a holiday himself. He worked hard in the gym, worked on his fitness and on getting back. "We’ve had to curb him. I said to Matt that’s he got to be patient, but he wanted to be ready four weeks ago.
"I

I said ‘you’re not ready, you’re not ready’ and I still think he’s slightly away from maybe starting games.
t’s a fantastic sight to see him out on the pitch and the reception he got. He’s Wycombe through and through and he’s definitely part of my plans." The fixture against the fellow Sky Bet League 2 side signals the start of three mammoth away trips.

Blooms said: “There’s a bit of travelling to do, but it’s good for the team building. The away trips are always good fun and the new lads will have to sing, which is always something to look forward to, especially being an older pro!”

Wanderers travel to Hartlepool United on Saturday and Plymouth Argyle a week Saturday, with the total mileage for the next 10 days totalling 1,326.
