Jo Kuffour praised Gareth Ainsworth’s rousing half-time team talk which inspired a spirited comeback in the 3-2 defeat at Rochdale on Saturday.
The Blues fought back from going 3-0 down inside the opening 15 minutes to make a real of game of it in an entertaining encounter at Spotland.
Goalscorer Kuffour drew on the positives when talking with Chairboys Player after the game, with a much-improved second half display almost giving the Chairboys a share of the spoils.
“At half-time he made us believe in ourselves and there was only one team in it in the second half,”said the 31-year-old.
“We tweaked the formation a little bit which I think set us up better in the second half.
It’s just a shame we couldn’t get the equaliser."
He added: “It took us a long time to get going but we have to put that to bed and make sure it doesn’t happen again. They started the game very fast today to be fair to them.
“But our start killed us - we started very slowly. We knew we had to come here and be tight, because they are a good attacking side similar to ourselves, but we have to learn from this and come back stronger to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Kuffour concluded by hailing the performance of strike partner and fellow goalscorer Matt McClure in the narrow defeat.
“Matt’s a great player so it’s always good to play with him, as he likes bringing others into play, so it was nice playing off him today.”
