Ainsworth warns against complacency

20 September 2013

Gareth Ainsworth has warned his in-form side not to underestimate Saturday’s visitors York City (k.o 3pm).

Blues go into the game on the back of four successive wins and are riding high in fifth place, while the Minstermen are without a victory since the opening game of the season and currently lie second-bottom in Sky Bet League 2.

“They won’t be pushovers just because they’re at the opposite end of the table at the moment,” Ainsworth told Chairboys Player.

“There was a team called Wycombe Wanderers last year at the opposite end to a few, and we upset them.

“We won’t take anything for granted. We can’t just turn up and think we’ve cracked it, the moment we do that is the moment that we’ll fail.

“I’ll be making sure that everything is right and in place, and hopefully we can keep turning that screw and doing the right things to take the three points.”

Wanderers’ impressive start to the season is in stark contrast to last year and Ainsworth believes his squad are feeling the benefits of 12 months’ hard work.

e said: “When we were put in charge last year we had immediate issues to attack, which was to get us off the bottom of the league and we did that.
“We finished relatively well and in the summer we had a new plan of attack, which was to sort out how we want to play and put things in place that would give us the best chance of improving on last year.

“It’s a combination of the players who have played lately, the spirit that we have and the work over the last year.

“That’s right down to the injury prevention, the monitoring, the sessions we did in pre-season including the rowing – all these things are now coming to the fore which is great.

“It’s like leading the horse to water, but you can’t make it drink. We say 'this is there for you, you’ve got to come on board' and they have.”
