Ainsworth on his first year in charge

26 September 2013

Gareth Ainsworth celebrated his first anniversary as Wanderers manager on Tuesday, and 52 games into his reign Blues' boss says he loves the job as much as ever.

The 40-year-old's first game in charge was on a caretaker basis, before he was appointed full-time manager on 8 Septemberthon 29when the Wanderers made the trip to Dagenham & Redbridge

“Every day I get up and I love this job and love coming in seeing these faces and the smiles,” Ainsworth told Chairboys Player.

“Hopefully it’s something we can evolve and ultimately Wycombe will become better with us and like I always say get back to the good years.

“It’s been a really good year and hopefully there are a few more years to come.”

Ainsworth added: “It’s been a real baptism of fire and we were bottom of the league at one stage, to finish where we did last year was great.

“Beating Oxford and guaranteeing our safety last year was a big moment for us. We set out to survive and keep the team in League 2 and we did that in that game. That was a huge moment for me.

“The whole turnaround and the positive spin the boys have got, the attitude of the players and the 'One Wycombe' that we are working towards has been brilliant and long may it continue.

“Thanks to everyone that has given any support, it’s been great.”
