Lee Angol scored the only goal of the game as a Wanderers XI beat QPR 1-0 at the Championship side’s training ground.Angol fired into an empty net in the 13th minute following a mistake from Juilo Cesar after the Brazil international had been put under pressure by Dean Morgan.
Sebastian Cann-Svärd completed 90 minutes, while Steven Craig played the first half as he returned to the team for the first time since the 3-0 victory at Plymouth Argyle on 14th September.
QPR’s main threat came from Michael Petrasso, and Charlie Horlock did well to deny the midfielder before Angol opened the scoring.
Marvin McCoy came close to adding a second 10 minutes before the break, but his low shot was blocked and Matt Spring hit the outside of the post with the rebound.
Wanderers finished the half the stronger of the sides with Sam Wood’s 25-yard free-kick forcing a smart save out of Cesar and Craig then firing over the bar at the far post following neat work on the left from Dean Morgan, Spring and Wood.
Gareth Ainsworth made two changes at the start of the second half with Matt McClure and Jon-Paul Pittman replacing Morgan and Craig, and McClure had the next chance on the hour when he flicked McCoy’s long throw goalwards, but straight at substitute keeper Joe Lumley.
Junior Morias was denied by Lumley’s legs before Angol was just unable to turn McClure’s cut-back goalwards.
Pittman forced a fine save out of Lumley five minutes from time after a neat turn on the area, and Ainsworth’s men were never really troubled.
Wanderers: Horlock, McCoy, Wood, Doherty (Fletcher 63), Johnson, Cann-Svärd, Spring, Kretzschmar (Morias 57), Angol, Morgan (Pittman 46), Craig (McClure 46).
