Sam’s smiling

5 November 2013

Sam Wood says the close bond between the players and fans is enhancing his enjoyment on the field.

Wood & co were backed magnificently once again at Accrington Stanley on Saturday as the Blues were cruelly denied a deserved victory in injury-time.
"They were brilliant again," the 27-year-old told Chairboys Player. "I was near them as I was playing down the left and I was having a bit of banter with them.

"It’s always nice to play with a smile on your face and to enjoy the game with your fans is great."

He added: "I thought we were the better side over the game and we should’ve won but we’ve taken a point, and it could be a good point come the end of the season.

"We ground it out, got the goal and should have scored more goals if anything. That's where we've got to learn, to ride things out.

"It's a hard place to come. To get a point here is a good point, but it's definitely two points dropped. We’ll take the positives and move on because that’s what it’s all about."

Wood was understandably delighted to return to the starting XI in the 1-1 draw at the Crown Ground.

"I’m over the moon," he said. "I was out with illness and then I had to wait for my chance.

"It’s a team game. I’ll work hard if I’m playing or not, all with the aim to try and help the boys get the three points."

Next up for the Chairboys is Crewe Alexandra at Adams Park in the first round of the FA Cup at the weekend, and the former Brentford man is excited at the prospect of playing in the greatest club cup competition in the world.

He said: "I’m looking forward to it. It would be nice to go on a cup run and we’re focused on that now.

"Other people might be given a chance but we’ll work together as a team and be behind each other to try and get into the next round."
Tickets in the seating areas for the visit of Crewe cost £17 for adults, £12 for seniors and ages 19-25, £5 for ages 8-18 and free for under 7s.  or book in person from the Information Centre at Adams Park.onlineMeanwhile, a ticket in the Greene King IPA Terrace will cost just £15 for adults, £11 for seniors, £9 for ages 19-25 and £5 for ages 8-18.
