Leon Johnson says he is hoping for some FA Cup magic on Saturday when League 1 outfit Crewe Alexandra visit Adams Park (k.o 3pm).
The Railwaymen have had a disappointing start to the season and are currently languishing in the relegation zone, however, Steve Davis’ side were Blues’ opponents at the same stage last season and ran out comfortable winners.
“I haven’t had a massive cup run and it would be nice to have one this season,” Johnson told Chairboys Player.
“Financially if we can get through the early rounds and get a big team then it can only be good for the club and the fans.
“Crewe will be a good test, they’re obviously a league above and it’ll be a tough game, but you never know in the cup.
“We probably do owe them after last year. I didn’t play in that one, but hopefully we can beat them 4-1 this time!”
Johnson played the full 90 minutes as Wanderers beat Slough Town 3-0 in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup on Tuesday, and the long-serving centre-back is hopeful of a return to the squad following a recent hip injury.
“I’ve missed a little while but I got some minutes against QPR and got some minutes tonight, so I’m itching to get my place back in the starting line-up. Hopefully I’ve done enough to get in the squad again.
“I feel good, I’ll keep working hard in games like this and in training. We had a lot of old heads playing, everyone was professional and we passed the ball about well.”
Johnson added: “It was a good 3-0 and I thought maybe should have been a lot more. We wore them down and ended up getting a good result in the end.
“No disrespect to them, but we should be coming here and keeping clean sheets. It was a good day at the office really.
“Springy’s was a great goal - I tried to claim it because it flew past me at the end! We had some good players playing tonight, we should always come here and win comfortably and we did.”
