Setback driving Blooms on

16 May 2013

Matt Bloomfield says he’s determined to make up for lost time and come back fighting fit for the season ahead.

The fans’ favourite, who agreed a new one-year contract to take him into his testimonial season at Adams Park last week, missed the majority of the 2012/13 campaign through injury.
“I haven’t got a holiday booked,” Blooms told Chairboys Player. “I’m going to Kenya with the club in June but I’ll be taking my work out there with me.

“I’m working five days a week, resting over the weekend and then going again. I’ve got six weeks of that to make sure I’m as fit as I possibly can be come pre-season.

“I’m really looking forward to it and no-one will be hungrier than me on the first day of pre-season.”

He added: “I love my football, and if I didn’t know that already, the last eight months have shown me that I want to play for as long as I can and that I want to be here for as long as I can.

“It’s been hard, but I’m excited for pre-season and the first game back at Adams Park will be emotional, a good day.”

The all-action midfielder admits his career has panned out differently to the way he imagined, but he stressed he wouldn’t change it for the world.

“When I first signed on that 18-month deal back in 2003, the plan was to stay for 18 months and then see what was out there.

“Nine-and-a-half years later, I’m still here and it’s gone so quick. I’ve loved every minute of it apart from the last eight months.

“I’m very honoured and proud to extend my deal into my testimonial year.”
