Winfield and McClure are injury doubts

15 March 2013

Dave Winfield and Matt McClure are injury doubts ahead of Saturday’s visit of Northampton Town, but boss Gareth Ainsworth has refused to rule out the duo.

McClure limped off after 20 minutes of Tuesday's draw with Rotherham with a foot injury, while Winfield was replaced 16 minutes from time.

“They would be big losses and they’ve been big players for me,” Ainsworth told Chairboys Player.

“Dave has been an awesome leader for me in the absence of Doc. He’s stepped up to the plate and come on in his game. He’s defended better than he’s ever defended and his distribution has been great.

He’d be a big loss, but if anyone can get through an injury then it would be Dave Winfield. He’s an absolute warrior.

“Matty McClure is different to any other striker we’ve got. He leads the line high and likes to get in behind and he’s always taking chances.

“He won’t touch the ball for 10 minutes, but then he’ll do something unbelievable.”

Ainsworth added: “They would both be big misses, but I wouldn’t rule them out yet. The medical team are getting a lot of experience this year in getting players back and I’m sure they will be doing everything they can to get these two back.

“If we don’t then we have players to replace them and I have players waiting in the wings. If they are fit then it’s a great boost for the squad.”

Tickets for Saturday’s game start from just £5 for juniors and £16 for adults. Book online, by calling the ticket office on 01494 441118 or by visiting the Information Centre at Adams Park.
