Gaz relishing Rochdale test

8 March 2013

Gareth Ainsworth says he will have to get one over an old friend if the Wanderers are to come away with all three points from Rochdale on Saturday (k.o 3pm).

Chairboys go into the game on the back of two successive victories, but Blues’ boss knows his side face a tough test against Keith Hill’s Dale.

“I know Keith and we go back many years,” Ainsworth told Chairboys Player.

“When I was 16 I signed apprentice forms at Blackburn Rovers and I think he was a first year pro so I think he has a couple of years on me.

“His teams will always be good footballing teams. He’s done wonders at Rochdale and he took them to their highest league position in a long time.

“He deserves great respect and he’s got it from me. He’s a good friend and a good manager and we’ll have to be at our very best to pick anything up.

Ainsworth added:  “I really thought we deserved more than the defeat against them at home. It was a crazy deflection in the last moments of the game, but we’ve got one to maybe get back and we might get a little bit of luck up there.

“If we don’t get the luck then we’ll make sure we continue work hard and I believe we’ve got a big chance of getting the points anyway.”
