Goals from Josh Scowen, Dean Morgan and Jo Kuffour helped Wanderers to a convincing 3-0 victory at Staines Town.
Scowen returned to the side after missing the last two games with a slight groin strain, but Nick Arnold was rested after picking up a foot injury against parent club Reading last Saturday.
It was the hosts that started the better of the sides and they were a coat of paint away from taking the lead in the fourth minute when Oluwole Akinsanya’s strike rebounded back off the post with Matt Ingram beaten.
Jo Kuffour saw an effort well blocked after a neat break involving Marvin McCoy and Dean Morgan, before Morgan saw a shot deflect wide from the edge of the area after being found by Jon-Paul Pittman.
Staines keeper Jack Turner was called into action in the 11th minute, but he was well positioned to make a comfortable top from Morgan’s header after the forward had been picked out by McCoy’s deep cross.
Blues took the lead six minutes later when Spring touched a free-kick to Morgan and his 20-yard strike was only parried by Turner, allowing Scowen, who reacted far quicker than anyone else, to tap in from close-range.
Gareth Ainsworth’s side doubled their advantage in the 26th minute after a spell of neat one-touch passing around the area led to the ball finding its way Morgan, and he made no mistake, firing high into the top corner from 10 yards.
The move originated with Scowen finding Pittman 20 yards out from goal and neat exchanges from Lewis and Kuffour led to Morgan netting his fourth in as many games.
Turner made a simple save from Kuffour after the striker was put under pressure by a defender, but the chance came from another clever passing move involving Pittman and Morgan, with the latter slipping Kuffour through on goal.
It was three less than 60 seconds after the break when Kuffour drilled low into the far corner from just inside the area after being found by McCoy.
Pittman was inches away from further increasing the lead in the 54th minute as he capitalised on Qaseem Sotonwa’s mistake and skipped past Jerel Ifil, however, his angled drive drifted just wide of the post.
Morgan then suffered a similar fate as he too was just unable to find the far corner after shooting across Merson.
Ainsworth made his first changes on the hour with Tommy Fletcher and Sam Wood replacing Stewart and Dunne, before Jesse Kewley-Graham, Max Kretzschmar, Paris Cowan-Hall, Junior Morias, Kortney Hause and a trialist entered the fray soon after.
Staines’ Cyril Ocansey did well to get behind the Blues’ defence, but Ingram made himself big and gave the striker nothing to aim at.
Morias forced a save out of Merson after turning well on the edge of the area, but the game was halted soon after when Sam Bates left the pitch on a stretcher after being caught by Morias’ stray boot as the striker attempted an overhead kick.
