Leon Johnson has moved to thank Blues fans for the messages he has received since re-signing at the club, and for all of their support during his six seasons at Adams Park.
The centre-back, who agreed a new one-year deal with the Chairboys on Monday, has become a firm fans’ favourite since joining from Gillingham, and a number of supporters left messages for Johnno on the Wanderers' official Facebook page.“Thanks for all the support,” the 32-year-old told Chairboys Player.
“The fans have been brilliant to me since I’ve been here. Keep supporting me and supporting the team this season -get behind us and hopefully we can do you proud.”
Johnson played the final 25 minutes of Tuesday’s 3-0 victory at Eastleigh and is in line to feature again tomorrow (Saturday) as Gareth Ainsworth’s side take on Championship outfit Reading in a behind-closed-doors friendly.
He said: “I just want to get a pre-season under my belt now and get a bit of fitness to try and be ready for the first game of the season.
“I’m a couple of weeks behind but you catch up in no time. I’ve been doing bits by myself until things got sorted.
Johnson added: “I don’t think you can read too much into pre-season. I’ve done pre-seasons before where I’ve thought we’re going to struggle this season and we’ve ended up getting promoted.
“Under Peter Taylor pre-season didn’t go too great, but we ended up getting promoted. It’s just about fitness and making sure we are firing on all cylinders for Morecambe at home – that’s the main objective.”
