Gareth Ainsworth says people shouldn’t judge how far Wycombe have come under his leadership solely on Saturday’s game with Dagenham & Redbridge (k.o 3pm).
Ainsworth’s first match in caretaker charge came at the Daggers and the Blues have shown huge improvements since that 3-0 defeat at the end of September.
“People will make the comparisons, but it’s not always that easy,” Ainsworth told Chairboys Player. “Dagenham are a different team to a lot of sides in this league and they will be very physical and very organised. Set-plays will be a big thing.
“We got turned over 3-0 at their place and it was our first game in charge. We didn’t have too much to do with the team that week and it was all up in the air.
“People should have seen already how far we’ve come without having to rely on this game because if God forbid we lose then people will say we are just the same as we were, but everyone knows that’s not true.
“We have made strides and it would be a Hollywood thing if we did beat them, but footballs not always like that and we were the poorest that I’ve seen last Saturday and my job is to figure out why, address that, move forward and be positive for the next game.
“John Still is a good friend of mine and I know what they’ll be about. Hopefully they’ll be surprised to see how far we’ve come.”
